2010 Maple Leaf Awards Recap

The 4th annual Maple Leaf Awards Dinner took place on Saturday, January 23,, 2010 at the Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club in Coquitlam, BC.

The sold-out event, held in support of youth and collegiate field lacrosse in BC, featured former sportscaster and current Global TV morning news anchor, Steve Darling as MC, as well as special guest Brian Price who delivered the evening’s keynote address. Price took the sell-out crowd of just under 250 along his inspiring journey of how his battle with childhood cancer led him on a path to becoming a three-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist as the coxswain of Canada’s men’s eight rowing team.

Proceeds from all four Maple Leaf Award Dinners have gone to benefit the SFU Lacrosse Endowment Fund and youth and collegiate field lacrosse in BC.

2010 Adrenaline Challenge Report

The Burnaby Mountain Selects U13 (1996 born) and U12 (1997/1998 born) Elite fall touring teams travelled to San Diego, California to compete at the Adrenaline Challenge, January 16-17, 2010.

The Selects faced-off against some of the top middle school aged club teams in the western United States playing teams from California, Nevada, Utah and Washington. The U13 Selects went 5-2 (.714) to place 4th in the Adrenaline/Warrior Middle School Division, while a couple of timely victories saw the U12 Selects place 3rd in the South Swell Youth Division despite a 3-4 (.429) record.

2010 Tournament of Champions Report

The Burnaby Mountain Selects Senior (1992 born) and Freshmen (1995 born) Elite fall touring teams travelled to Tampa, Florida to compete at the 2010 Dicks Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions (TOC) January 1-3.

More than 50 teams across three divisions descended on Wesley Chapel District Park to compete for the right to be called the national club lacrosse champions. The Senior Selects placed 25th in the High School Elite Division while the Freshmen Selects placed 9th in the tournament’s U15 Division.

4th Annual Maple Leaf Awards - Saturday, January 23, 2010

The SFU men's lacrosse program in partnership with Burnaby Mountain Selects Lacrosse, will be hosting the 4th annual Maple Leaf Awards Dinner this Saturday, January 23.

Each year, the Maple Leaf Awards celebrate Canada's national sport by recognizing the Provincial Champions for all levels of youth field lacrosse in BC. The awards dinner and silent auction will also recognize the individual award winners for both SFU men's lacrosse and the Burnaby Mountain Selects 2009 summer and fall seasons.

Steve Darling, a former sportscaster and current morning news anchor for Global TV, will serve as the evening's MC, while special guest Brian Price, a 3-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist will lead this year's keynote address.

The event will be held at the Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club in Coquitlam, BC starting at 6:00pm. Tickets ($65.00 +tax) for this event are SOLD OUT.

Winter 2010 U8/U10 Youth Indoor Field Lacrosse Program

After a successful fall, Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse is excited to offer another set of the Youth Indoor Field Lacrosse Development Program for winter 2010!

The Youth Indoor program is designed to introduce young athletes to the game of Field Lacrosse in a climate controlled environment. Drills are both fun and rewarding, as players will build upon basic fundamentals to learn new skills. Each session will include a 20-25 minute practice, followed by a 30-35 minute 7 v 7 game.

2009 Portland Exhibition Report

The Burnaby Mountain Selects U12 (1997 / 1998 born) and U13 (1996 born) Elite fall touring teams travelled down the Interstate 5 to Portland, Oregon and Tacoma, Washington to compete in an exhibition series on November 29, 2009.

The Selects combined to post a 5-0 (1.000) record against club teams from Oregon and Washington. The U12 and U13 Selects both went undefeated on the day posting 2-0 (1.000) and 3-0 (1.000) records respectively.

2009 Ultimate Performance Fall Shootout Report

The Burnaby Mountain Selects Sophomore (1994 born) and Junior (1993 born) Elite fall touring teams travelled to Baltimore, Maryland to compete at the UP Lax Fall Shootout, November 21-22, 2009. The Selects were able to showcase their skills in front of over 160 NCAA college coaches while competing against top club teams from Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ontario, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

While in Baltimore the Selects also toured the campuses of top NCAA Div. I programs Johns Hopkins and Loyola and spent a day in Manhattan, New York.

2009 Tacoma Exhibition Report

The Burnaby Mountain Selects U12 (1997 / 1998 born) and U13 (1996 born) Elite fall touring teams travelled to Tacoma, Washington to compete in an exhibition series hosted by the South Sound Starz on November 15, 2009.

The Selects combined to post a 5-2 (.714) record against high school and club teams from Washington state. The U12 Selects went undefeated posting a 3-0 record (1.000) while the U13 Selects went 2-2 (.500) on the day.

2009 National Recruiting Fall Ball Report

The Burnaby Mountain Selects Junior (1993 born) and Senior (1992 born) Elite fall touring teams travelled to Baltimore, Maryland to compete at the National Recruiting Fall Ball Lacrosse Tournament November 7-8, 2009.

The Selects were matched up against top club teams from Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ontario, Pennsylvania and Virginia as they competed in front of over 60 NCAA college coaches.

While in Baltimore the Selects also toured the campus of the US Naval Academy (NCAA Div. I) and spent a day in Washington, DC that included a visit to the White House.

2009 Charlotte Fall Classic Report

Coached by Simon Fraser University men's lacrosse Co-Head Coaches Jeff Cathrea and Brent Hoskins, the Burnaby Mountain Selects Freshmen (1995 born) and Sophomore (1994 born) Elite fall touring teams traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina to compete at the Charlotte Fall Lacrosse Classic October 31-November 1, 2009.

The Selects combined to post a 7-4 (.636) record against top club teams from Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Freshmen Selects went 5-1 (.833) to place 2nd in the tournament's Rising Stars Division while the Sophomore Selects went 2-3 (.400) and reached the Classic Division Semi-Final.

Selects Announce 2009 Fall Roster

Jeff Cathrea & Brent Hoskins, Co-Head Coaches of the Simon Fraser University men's lacrosse team and founders of the Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse Elite Development Program, have announced the 2009 fall rosters and schedule for the Burnaby Mountain Selects Elite Touring Teams.

Burnaby Mountain will field six travel teams this fall: U12 Elite (1997, 1998 born), U13 Elite (1996 born), Freshmen Elite (1995 born), Sophomore Elite (1994 born), Junior Elite (1993 born) and Senior Elite (1992 born).

In total, 111 student-athletes from twenty different communities across British Columbia and one US born athlete will represent the Selects at top tournaments in California, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina and exhibition games in Portland and Seattle.

At this time, we are opening priority registration to returning families. We ask that returning families please indicate if their athlete (including siblings) are interested in participating in the fall 2009 season. Verbal commitments to Brent Hoskins are required by Friday, August 7. Spots will be confirmed by Monday, August 10 after which time we will be opening up our general registration for the fall and filling spots from our application wait list.

Burnaby Mountain Selects earn TOC bid at Atlantic Cup

The U18 Elite and U15 Elite summer touring teams travelled to Baltimore, MD to compete at the Dick's Sporting Good's Atlantic Cup July 11-12, 2009. The U18 Selects posted an overall record of 5-1 (.833), while the U15 Selects went 1-4 (.200) against some of the top high school aged club teams on the East coast of the United States.

The U18 Selects finished 2nd in the Elite High School Division earning an automatic bid and invitation to compete at the 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions in Tampa, FL, January 1-3, 2010.

Burnaby Mountain Selects announce inaugural Girls Elite Touring Teams

The inaugural Summer / Fall 2009 season will feature 2 teams, a U15 team (1995 and 1996 born) and a U18 team (1994, 1993 and 1992 born). The season will run September 13-Oct 12 and includes Sunday and Monday practices, study halls and a trip to a high caliber US college recruiting tournament.

Burnaby Mountain Selects accepting player applications for 2009 Summer Season

The 2009 Summer Season will feature 3 teams, a U13 team (1996 born), a U15 team (1994 and 1995 born) and a U18 team (1991, 1992 and 1993 born).

Successful applicants will be elite student-athletes, who possess the desire to work hard and learn in a competitive team environment, while demonstrating the ability to prioritize their academics goals in the highest regards.

Burnaby Mountain Selects to Host NDP Qualifying Tournament

BMLA signed a deal with NDP Lacrosse to host Western Canada's first and only official qualifier for the 2010 Tournament of Champions.

The Sea to Sky Shootout, Western Canada's first and only NDP Tournament of Champions qualifying tournament, will be held July 24-26, in beautiful Burnaby British Columbia.

The tournament will feature a 16 Team Elite Boy's (Varsity: Sr & Post Grads welcome) High School Bracket. The top finishers will earn bids to compete for the national championship at the 2010 Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions.
