Burnaby Mountain Selects receive Membership Award to join
The National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association
top

By William Howard, Bby Mtn Lacrosse Media Relations

The Burnaby Mountain Selects have been selected as one of the newest members of The National Scholastic Club Lacrosse Association (NSCLA), solidifying their position as British Columbia? premier club lacrosse program, and formally recognizing the Selects as one of the top club lacrosse development programs in North America.

Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse will represent Western Canada as the exclusive opportunity for lacrosse student-athletes in British Columbia to compete in NSCLA hosted tournaments, affording the top players in BC with the opportunity to play against the other best club lacrosse programs in the USA and Canada, while providing maximum exposure to college coaches as part of the college recruitment process. The NSCLA attracts the highest number of recruiters from NCAA Division I, II and III schools and allows college coaches to see prospective recruits play within the important framework of a structured, systematic, team environment.

Formed in 2010, The NSCLA was established to bring together experienced, like-minded leaders of elite organized lacrosse clubs throughout North America. Membership into The NSCLA is a selective process, with only the top high school and youth club teams hand-selected by The NSCLA Executive Board. Membership is currently restricted to just over 20 top programs from across the USA and Canada, with each member club selected to represent the best players in a defined geographical region. Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse is the only lacrosse program in BC invited to be a part of the most prestigious organization in club lacrosse, also making the Burnaby Mountain Selects the first member of The NSCLA to be selected from the Pacific Northwest.

The NSCLA principal objectives are to encourage, foster and promote the highest level of scholastic club lacrosse competition among well-organized programs. NSCLA members each share the same passion to coach, teach, instruct and mentor scholastic age players, with every club having in common a comprehensive instructional lacrosse program within their organizations.

The Burnaby Mountain Selects Sophomore 2016 Elite and Senior 2014/2015 Elite will be the first BMS teams to attend a NSCLA tournament, competing in The NSCLA fall member event held on Sunday, November 10 as part of the Ultimate Performance Lacrosse (UP Lax) Fall Shootout in Baltimore, Maryland. This one-day showcase will feature a restricted site just for NSCLA sanctioned teams, and will host the largest representation of college coaches during the Fall NCAA Recruiting Calendar. The Burnaby Mountain Selects will then compete annually in The NSCLA Championship Cup, held each June during the primary NCAA Summer Evaluation Period.

"We are extremely honored to have been selected to join The NSCLA, which unites the very best lacrosse programs in North America, and will now offer an unprecedented opportunity to lacrosse student-athletes in British Columbia looking to play the sport at the collegiate level,?said Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse co-founder and Executive Director, Brent Hoskins, who is also the Head Men? Lacrosse Coach at Simon Fraser University. ?SCLA Member Events offer an unparalleled environment for top prospective recruits to showcase their ability to an unmatched audience of college coaches, but NSCLA teams are also recognized by college coaches as a must-see at any tournament that they attend, which will have a far-reaching benefit to every athlete in our Elite Touring program in terms of the recruitment process. Joining The NSCLA maintains our commitment to the highest standards in teaching and promoting the sport in BC, and provides an exclusive platform for our BMS student-athletes to compete against the other best players and programs in the USA and Canada, in front of more college coaches than ever before."

BMS BOY'S ELITE: 2013 University of Notre Dame - Irish Experience Team Camp Reporttop

By William Howard, Bby Mtn Lacrosse Media Relations

(Photographer: Joyce Simons)

The BMS Freshmen Elite (Grad 2017) and Sophomore Elite (Grad 2016) summer touring teams travelled to the iconic college town of South Bend, Indiana July 4-8, to compete at the University of Notre Dame ?Irish Experience Team Camp (July 5-7).

After outscoring their competition by a combined score of 49-3 over their opening four contests to start Day 1, both the BMS Freshmen Elite (U14) and Sophomore Elite (U15) teams, who were already playing up a Division, were moved-up an additional age bracket to compete in the tournament? U17 and U19 Divisions, respectively. Following a narrow loss to start versus teams up to three years their elder, both Selects teams would go on impressive runs as the BMS Sophomores fell by a goal in Overtime in the Quarterfinals to the eventual U19 Champion and the BMS Freshmen made it all the way to the U17 Championship, shooting wide as time expired to also fall just short by a one-goal margin of 7-6.

The BMS Freshmen and Sophomore? experience in South Bend, exemplified the famous quote "Leave the field a better player. Leave Notre Dame a better person." made by legendary Notre Dame Football Coach Dan Devine. In addition to playing a combined 16 games, over the three days of competition, the Selects got to experience the life of an Irish student-athlete first-hand as they were housed on-campus in Notre Dame? historic Zahm Hall, the most prominent residence hall at Notre Dame - built in 1937, and received exclusive access inside the facilities used by Notre Dame? Men? Lacrosse team (NCAA Div. I), all while having constant interaction with the Notre Dame Coaching Staff.

Following the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday afternoon, the Selects enjoyed some fun in the sun at Silver Beach on Lake Michigan. On their way home, the Selects then spent Monday morning touring Downtown Chicago, visiting ?indy City?landmarks Grant Park, ?he Bean?Cloud Gate sculpture in Millennium Park, and Navy Pier, before making a stop at the ?adhouse on Madison?to see the United Center and famous ?he Spirit?statue of Michael Jordan.

Coached by former NCAA Women? Lacrosse Coaches Chris Fox and Stephanie Burlton, the Burnaby Mountain Selects Girl? High School Elite fall touring team travelled to Palm Springs, California, January 17-21 to compete at the Sand Storm Lacrosse Festival (Jan. 19-20).

The 2013 Sand Storm Lacrosse Festival featured 114 Girl? teams across six age divisions, including top club programs from BC, California, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Washington. The BMS Girl? High School Elite team competed up in the tournament? top 2013 Division, despite an under-aged roster of eight grad 2015?, seven 2014?, no 2013? and two post-grads. One of only five Canadian teams in attendance, the BMS Girl? equaled the number of wins by all other Canadian squads combined, posting a 5-1 (.833) record, and reaching the 2013 Semi-Finals; the best ever finish for a Canadian program at what is considered the top western recruiting event for female student-athletes. With a win over Intrepid All-Stars (4-2) from Pennsylvania in the Quarterfinals, the Selects also became the first-ever Western Canadian team to defeat an opponent from the eastern seaboard of the United States, the top hotbed for women? lacrosse.

Prior to arriving in Palm Springs, the Selects spent the day in San Diego, where they received an exclusive tour of San Diego State University (NCAA Div. I) by Aztec Head Coach Kylee White. White became the first Head Women? Lacrosse Coach at SDSU prior to their inaugural season in 2011. A native of London, Ontario, she is also a four-time member of Canada? Women? National Team. END OF FALL SEASON REVIEW (Part 1 of 3): BMS Boy's Elite - 2012 NDP Tournament of Championstop

By William Howard, Bby Mtn Lacrosse Media Relations

(Photographer: Joyce Simons)

The Burnaby Mountain Selects (BMS) Senior Elite (Grad 2013) fall touring team travelled to Tampa, Florida December 27 to January 1 to compete at the 2012 NDP Lacrosse - Dicks Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions (Dec. 29-31).

Ninety (90) teams across five divisions descended on Wesley Chapel District Park to compete for the right to be called the NDP National Club Lacrosse Champions. After earning the No. 2 seed with a record of 3-0-1 through the Qualifying Round, the Senior Selects would place 4th in the High School Elite Division, falling by a goal as time expired to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) National Team in the 3rd Place Game, after being knocked out of the Elite Semi-Finals in a rematch versus Sweet Lax (New York). The 4th place result would represent the best-ever finish for BMS at the Tournament of Champions and make them the highest placing Canadian team in attendance.

Each year, the top club teams in North America must qualify to attend the Dicks Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions. The Burnaby Mountain Senior Selects earned an automatic qualifier for the 2012 TOC by winning the High School Division at the 2011 Charlotte Fall Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of only six (6) teams west of the Mississippi out of the ninety-team (90) tournament field. In addition to teams from Ontario and twenty different states, including Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington, the Burnaby Mountain Selects were also the only Canadian program, and the only team from the West, competing in the Tournament of Champions?top ?lite?Division.

Following three days of completion, the Selects concluded their trip and celebrated New Year? Eve with a visit to The Universal Orlando Resort, consisting of the Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure theme parks, and the Universal CityWalk Orlando entertainment complex.
