Each Selects athlete will receive structured, regimented coaching from a qualified coaching staff that has played and coached at the US collegiate level. Each team will be exposed to a progressional practice plan that will allow for the maximal amount of technical, fundamental, and game strategy skills to be learned.
All teams Boy's Elite Teams are operated by Head Coach Brent Hoskins. Hoskins, one of the founders of Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse and the Selects Lacrosse Student-Athlete Development Model, is also Head Coach of the Simon Fraser University (MCLA Div. I) men's lacrosse program, where he helped guide the Clan to back-to-back PNCLL Conference Championships in 2008 and 2009 and was named PNCLL Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Entering his tenth season on the sidelines for the Simon Fraser University men's lacrosse team, Brent Hoskins will be the sole Head Coach of the Clan in 2011-2012, after serving as Co-Head Coach the past seven seasons and as an Assistant Coach / Defensive Coordinator from 2002-2004. Through seven seasons with Hoskins as a Head Coach, SFU has accumulated an impressive record of 76-32 (.704) and a PNCLL Conference record of 54-11 (.831). During this time, the Clan have appeared in the PNCLL Final Four Conference Championship each of the last seven years, reaching the finals in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2011 and winning back-to-back Conference Championships in 2008 and 2009. They also made three straight National Championship Tournament appearances from 2008-2010, most recently playing in the 2010 MCLA Semi-Finals after reaching the Quarterfinals in 2008 and 2009. Since the inception of the program in 1996, Fraser has won an unprecedented eight (8) Conference Championships and ranks 6th all-time with ten (10) National Championship Tournament appearances.
In seven seasons with Hoskins as a Head Coach, SFU has produced twenty-one (21) All-Americans (5 x 1st Team All-Americans) and sixty-two (62) PNCLL All-Conference selections (28 x 1st Team All-Conference). In 2008, Hoskins, along with former Co-Head Coach Jeff Cathrea, set the school record for wins in a season with sixteen (16). Hoskins and Cathrea also hold the school record for wins in a career at seventy-six (76) and were named PNCLL Coaches of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Additionally, under Hoskins leadership, Simon Fraser University became the first institution outside of the United States to be awarded the James "Ace" Adams Sportsmanship Award (District 11); an award given by the US Lacrosse Men's Division Officials Council, College Officials Committee.
Away from the field, Hoskins places a great deal of emphasis on academics and SFU Lacrosse players have excelled in the classroom, producing the programs first eleven (11) MCLA Scholar Athletes (Academic All-Americans) and maintaining the programs best academic record, which includes the program's first player to be awarded standing on the President's Honour Roll in 2011, an award for students who have completed at least 30 units at SFU, and have achieved a term GPA of 4.0 or above while taking at least 12 units of classes.
Outside of his success at the collegiate level, Hoskins has coached six (6) SFU players who have either played or been drafted in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) professional draft, one (1) player who was selected in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) professional draft and three (3) Clan players who have gone to represent their countries at the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championships, including one player who also represented his country at the European Championships. In 2007, Hoskins was also invited by Gary Gait, legendary Hall of Fame player and Head Coach of Canada's U19 Men's National Team for the 2008 ILF World Championships, to be an off-field evaluator for Team Canada's U19 Western Try-Out Camp and on-field coach for Canada's Final U19 Selection Camp.

Luke Genereux (SFU '11) - Assistant Coach, Boys Elitetop
The Burnaby Mountain Selects 2011 Fall season is the eighth for Assistant Coach Luke Genereux. "Coach Genny", as many players and parents affectionately know him, began his career with the Selects in the summer of 2008. In addition to his coaching duties, Luke currently serves as the Assistant Manager of Operations for Selects Lacrosse Inc.
Luke is no stranger to success, as both a player and a coach. He is currently an Asstant Coach of the Simon Fraser University Men’s Lacrosse team. During the 2007-2008 season, Coach Genereux was Defensive Coordinator to the 3rd place University of Bristol Lacrosse Club in England. Luke has also coached teams at the community level winning a BC Provincial Gold medal in 2006.
As a player, Luke has won numerous provincial gold medals with the Port Coquitlam Saints and two national gold medals in two appearances with the BC Selects program. Luke has also been the recipient of several MVP and Most Sportsmanlike Player awards. At the collegiate level, Luke helped guide the Clan to a PNCLL Conference Championship in 2009 and was a two-time MCLA All-American, being named to the MCLA All-America Third Team as a senior in 2011 after garnering honourable mention status as a junior in 2010. He was also a three time PNCLL All-Conference 1st Team selection (2007, 2010, 2011). Luke played his senior season at SFU in 2011, where he served as one of the Clan's Team Captains. In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Luke was also included on the MCLA’s list of 2011 Scholar Athletes.
Not only is Luke a dedicated coach and player, he is also a dedicated student at Simon Fraser University. In the fall of 2006, Luke was the proud recipient of the Ted Fridge Memorial Scholarship, the Pacific Coast Field Lacrosse League Bursary, and a Simon Fraser University entrance scholarship. In 2011, Luke was named the inaugural recipient of Christian Friesen Memorial Award, an endowment fund established to help honor the memory of former Burnaby Mountain Selects student-athlete Chris Friesen by providing students playing lacrosse at SFU a chance to work harder on their studies, work harder on lacrosse and CHANGE THE WORLD as a result. In the spring semester of 2011, Luke was honored with standing on the Presidents Honor roll, accredited to students whom achieve an average term GPA of 4.0 or higher and have taken at least 30 academic credits at SFU. Luke is currently in the process of completing his fifth year at Simon Fraser perusing a degree in Business Administration with concentrations in both Entrepreneurship and Marketing.
Chris Fox (Wheeling Jesuit '06) - Assistant Coach, Boys Elitetop
Chris Fox comes to Burnaby Mountain with a wealth of lacrosse knowledge. Fox brings extensive NCAA experience having served as an Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach for three seasons at Whittier College (NCAA Div. III) and one year as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at his Alma Mater, Wheeling Jesuit University (NCAA Div. II). Chris continues to coach at the college level as an Assistant Coach of the Simon Fraser University Men’s Lacrosse team (MCLA Div. I)
Entering his second season with Burnaby Mountain, Chris is Director and Head Coach of the Selects Girl's Elite Touring Program and an Assistant Coach with the BMS Boy's Elite teams. Chris comes to Selects Lacrosse most recently from Whittier College (NCAA DIII) where he served the past two years as Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach. Coach Fox was vital in the programs most successful seasons to date - 2010 with a record of 6-11 and 2009 with the programs first ever winning season of 8-6. During his time at Whittier Coach Fox help develop a Second-Team IWLCA All-West Region, two Second-Team All SCIAC, and two First-Team All SCIAC players.
Also in 2010, while coaching at Whittier College, Coach Fox was the Assistant Girl's Lacrosse Coach at Los Alamitos High School. Coach Fox helped the Griffins to a perfect 22-0 record and a South Section CIF Championship.
Chris' return to southern California came after serving as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at his Alma Mater in Wheeling W.V. (NCAA DII). He became the forth-head coach in the eight-year history of the lacrosse program at Wheeling Jesuit University. Fox was the first former Cardinal to lead the men's lacrosse team as head coach. Additionally, Fox played under each of the three former head coaches during his playing career at Wheeling Jesuit University.
During his first season as the Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach at Whittier College, Fox help lead the Poets to four regular season victories (4-11). The most wins the program had seen since 2003. The success of the 2007 season came after two consecutive seasons without a regular season victory. The Poets season ended with back-to-back wins, which had not been accomplished since 2001.
As a player Fox continues to play in the WLA. During his time at Wheeling Jesuit University, Chris was a four-year starter at attack/midfield and was a part of two national ranked teams during his freshman and senior years, ranking 10th and 9th respectively. In 2001 he won a Jr. B Canadian National Championship (Founders Cup) with his home town Wallaceburg Red Devils. He has won multiple provincial championships in Ontario.
Chris Tessarolo (SFU '11 / BMS '07) - Assistant Coach, Boys Elitetop
The Fall 2011 season is Chris Tessarolo's fourth as an assistant coach at Burnaby Mountain, however he is no stranger to the Selects program as a member of the inaugural Burnaby Mountain Selects team in the fall of 2006. Chris played one season with the selects during his grade 12 year, winning a Gold Medal at the Seattle Space Needle Shootout and attending the Adrenaline Challenge in San Diego, California.
During his collegiate career at Simon Fraser University, Chris helped lea d the Clan to back-to-back PNCLL Conference Championships in 2008 and 2009. A two-time PNCLL All-Conference Honorable Mention, he was also named to the PNCLL All-Conference 2nd Team as a sophomore in 2009 and Most Valuable Player of the PNCLL Final Four Conference Championships. Chris served as one of the Clan's Team Captains during his senior year in 2011 finishing his collegiate career with 105 goals and 46 assists for an impressive 150 points in 62 games, good for #10 all-time at SFU in goals and #12 in career points.
Brandon Bortignon (Canisius '12) - Assistant Coach (Seasonal), Boys Elitetop
The summer 2011 season was the first for Selects Assistant Coach Brandon Bortignon. Brandon, a Coquitlam native, came to the selects having just completed his junior season as a midfielder at Canisius College (NCAA Div. I) in Buffalo, NY, where he is pursuing a degree in international business. As a freshmen, Brandon helped lead the Canisius College men's lacrosse team to its most successful season in school history, directing the Golden Griffins to the program's first MAAC Championship and a bid to the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
As a high school student-athlete, Brandon attended The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA. In his senior season as captain of the Cougars, Brandon led the team to a win in the WPSLA Division II Championship and earned himself WPSLA All-League honours at attack. Brandon amassed an impressive 137 points, 99 goals and 39 assists during his career at Kiski.
Kyle Middleton (SFU '13 / BMS '09) - Assistant Coach, Boys Elitetop
Kyle Middleton is in his first season on the BMS Coaching Staff, with the responsibility of working primarily with the Selects goaltenders.
A 2009 BMS Grad, Middleton played two seasons with Burnaby Mountain in the summer and fall of 2008, helping guide the U18 and Senior Elite teams to successful tournaments in Colorado, Florida, Maryland and New York, where he backstopped the Selects to a second place finish at the Hobart College Team Camp and was selected to play in the tournament’s All-Star game.
Currently in his junior year at Simon Fraser University (MCLA Div. I), Kyle split time as the Clan’s starting goaltender in 2011. A native of Nanaimo, BC, Middleton won silver with the BC provincial team at the 2009 Canadian Field Lacrosse U19 National Championships where he was also named an All-Star as the tournament’s top goaltender.
Tommy Newton (SFU '14) - Study Hall Supervisor, Boys Elitetop
Tommy Newton is in his first season as Study Hall Supervisor with the Burnaby Mountain Selects Elite Touring program. An accomplished student, Newton received High Honour Role throughout his High School career, maintaining an average over 90% and receiving a Government General Proficiency Award and Scholarship in his home Province in Saskatchewan for achieving an average over 95% in his Grade 12 year. Tommy has also excelled on several standardized tests, scoring in the 87th percentile on the SAT. In addition to his role as Study Hall Supervisor, Tommy continues to tutor several High School students, on top of his own studies in Simon Fraser University’s faculty of Engineering where he maintains an impressive cumulative grade point average of 3.33.
Newton is currently in his sophomore year on the SFU Men’s Lacrosse team. Prior to being recruited by the Clan, Tommy achieved a long list of accomplishments as a youth lacrosse athlete. In 2008, he was named to the Saskatchewan Provincial 1st All-Star Team in both field and box lacrosse and was named MVP of Saskatoon Midget Box Lacrosse. He was once again selected to the Saskatchewan Field Lacrosse Provincial 1st All-Star Team in 2009 and was named an All-Star at the Adrenaline Lacrosse High School Shootout. In 2010, Tommy was selected as a Captain of the Saskatchewan Provincial Team, helping guide the team to a Bronze Medal finish at the 2010 Canadian National Field Lacrosse Championships. In the summer months, Tommy plays Junior ‘A’ Box Lacrosse for the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

Stephanie Burlton (Union '07) - Assistant Coach, Girls Elitetop
Stephanie joins Burnaby Mountain's female program with a wealth of lacrosse experience, both playing and coaching. Stephanie has played in goal for the Canadian National Team attending tournaments in Boston, MA and San Diego, CA. Prior to her experience with the national team Stephanie had a stand out career at Union College (NCAA Div III) as the starting goaltender, receiving all conference honourable mention and still holds records for most ground balls and most wins. Stephanie also led the Union Women’s Ice Hockey Team (NCAA Div I) in assists and was selected as the ECAC East Rookie of the Year.
While at Union, Stephanie helped coach the Niskayuna High School Varsity Lacrosse team out of Niskayuna, NY as well as coaching at the Player’s Choice camps in NY State. Stephanie was also the goalie coach/assistant at Emerson College (NCAA Div III) in Boston, MA for the 07/08 season.
Away from the field Stephanie continues to excel on the ice, having played for the BC Breakers Ice Hockey Club competing in the WWHL (Western Women’s Hockey League). She is currently the co-head coach of the Richmond Ravens Bantam A girl's hockey team and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA).
Academically, Stephanie was an accomplished student at Union and majored in Film Studies, Philosophy and Anthropology and continues to pursue her passion for documentary filmmaking when she has time away from athletics.
